The Cycle Route

The Towns of Thuringia Cycle Route links seven of Thuringia’s prettiest towns, passing through some of the most scenic and historically fascinating parts of the region. This long-distance cycle route is particularly suited to touring cyclists and the culturally minded. As part of the D4 route, it is connected to Germany’s network of long-distance cycle routes and links Eisenach, home to Wartburg Castle, in western Thuringia and Altenburg, reputed to be where the card game skat originated, in the east.
